We work at our

faith in Howard

County and the

city of Columbia

Welcome To Howard County and Columbia

Almost all major expressions of faith exist in and around Columbia.
We, the interfaith community of Columbia, are grateful for our heritage
and respectful of our traditions, and we honor our differences.

Together we move into the future responsibly.

This directory of religious organizations is maintained by the Columbia Cooperative Ministry (CCM).

The addresses are where the organization conducts religious services; they are not necessarily the mailing address.

Some of the religious organizations in this directory are in counties that border Howard County, but those organizations are very close to the county line.

Columbia Cooperative Ministry

Many of the Christian churches in the Columbia area are members of an ecumenical organization known as the Columbia Cooperative Ministry, which promotes cooperative endeavors in all phases of church activity (worship, education, and mission).

The work of CCM is accomplished largely through Task Groups. Usually, task groups are open to all who wish to participate. The only requirement for CCM sponsorship of a task group is for at least two member congregations to be represented. Current task forces include:

Faith and Fantasy - a clown ministry which shares non-verbal worship and caring experiences with others.

Ecumenical/Interfaith Worship - which has been responsible for planning several Interfaith/Ecumenical worship events throughout the year; for example, the joint Good Friday, joint Easter sunrise, and interfaith Thanksgiving Eve services.

Visibilty Task Group - Raising the awareness of the existence of the religious communities and what they are doing in Columbia.

Interfaith Task Forces:

  1. Building Bridges - A gathering of Howard County religious leaders, both clergy and interested laity, from different ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds for fellowship and sharing of our spiritual journeys.
  2. The Howard County Clergy for Social Justice - a representative group of interfaith congregations who are concerned about social justice issues, such as racism, violence, human needs, etc. This group seeks to do something about these issues.
  3. The Coalition for Compassion - an interfaith group of congregations that try to provide help to those in crisis situations (for example, food needs, eviction prevention, utility shut-off, medication, and others).
  4. The Howard County Clergy for Social Justice - a representative group of interfaith congregations who are concerned about social justice issues, such as racism, violence, human needs, etc. This group seeks to do something about these issues.
  5. Howard County Friends of Latin America (HoCoFoLA) - Looking at issues relating to Central and South America.
  6. Refugee Resettlement - Each congregation is responsible for the details of resettling refugee families.
